Playing with Friends in LEGO® Fortnite® (2024)

LEGO® Fortnite® is great by yourself, but it’s even more amazing with friends.

Adventuring together is the game’s ultimate social activity, as players cooperate to build villages, explore dark and mysterious caves, defeat bosses and even farm together.

Before we dive into how you play with up to seven friends in a shared world, let’s talk about what LEGO Fortnite is.

Understanding LEGO® Fortnite®

Good news! If you’re familiar with Fortnite, then you’re already familiar with LEGO Fortnite, which adds the LEGO Group’s iconic minifigures, bricks and elements into developer Epic Games’ popular world. You even download and start playing LEGO Fortnite through the existing Fortnite launcher. Just choose the LEGO Fortnite playlist tile in the Discover menu to begin.

You can play in two different ways in two different kinds of worlds:

A Survival world is an exciting place full of challenges that require your mastery. You’ll have to work to survive, gathering resources and defending yourself against the playfully wicked nightly skeleton onslaught.

A Sandbox world focuses on getting creative. You can explore your vast island and build whatever you want. It’s creativity-forward mode for players of all ages.

No matter which kind of world you choose, you can play together. And it’s awesome!

Multiplayer

Playing LEGO Fortnite with friends is an inherently social activity, in which 8 players can play together. It lets players welcome their pals into a community where they cooperate to build, explore caves and defeat powerful enemies. Players can do everything we’ve talked about thus far alone, but LEGO Fortnite expands and deepens when you join forces with friends within an ecosystem designed to help keep everyone safe.

With multiplayer, everything becomes an exercise in teamwork and collaboration. Suddenly, gathering that wood you need to craft into a sword isn’t so tough, with your friends swinging their axes alongside yours. And LEGO Fortnite’s massive map becomes easier to reveal with friends, too. The only way to fill in details like the location of loot-filled caves is to travel around. Exploration pays off and the map reveals itself as you visit new locations. It’s safer to travel together, or you can split up and become independent adventurers.

You can invite your friends into the world you’ve created, and your friends can do the same. LEGO Fortnite also lets you share a key with your friends, which allows key holders – and only key holders – to play in your world even when you’re not online. They’re free to build their own villages in the world you created, and everybody’s progress and builds are saved and shared.

Friends can be mischievous, too. When your health reaches zero – say, when a wild wolf was too much to handle – players respawn at their bed in their town, but their backpack full of supplies sits on the ground where they were eliminated. Your friends are free to pick up your backpack and help you out. Or they’re free to pick up your backpack and keep the contents for themselves!

How to Add Friends in LEGO Fortnite

Fortunately, jumping into a world with a friend is pretty straightforward. Here’s how you do it:

You need an Epic Games account to play LEGO Fortnite.

If you already have an existing Epic Games, LEGO, Nintendo®, PlayStation® or Xbox account, you can sign into Epic Games with that account. If you don’t, you’ll need to create one here. We suggest creating a LEGO account or linking to one that you already have.

It’s also a good idea to link your Epic Games account with your console’s account, if that’s where you’re playing, to keep your game progression no matter what platform you’re playing on. You can do that by signing into your account on the official Epic Games site.

When you have your accounts set up and linked, adding friends is a simple process.

1. Launch Fortnite.
2. Click on the circular avatar icon in the upper right of the screen.
3. Click the icon with the plus button on the menu that appears, which brings you to the Add Friends menu.
4. Enter your friend’s Epic account name or email address in the box provided.

LEGO Fortnite has a feature called crossplay, which allows people to join the same world no matter what platform they are on – PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Mac, mobile, PC or Xbox. Crossplay is enabled by default, so it doesn’t matter what hardware you and your friends have. You can all play together.
