The very first Paris Motor Show in the world was the Exposition Internationale d’Automobiles at the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris. To take part in the event, cars had to successfully complete a 23-kilometre round trip from Paris to Versailles to demonstrate their reliability. Electric cars were already on show alongside internal combustion engines

The event moved to the Grand Palais in Paris and was renamed the International Automobile, Cycle and Sports Exhibition. Dion-Bouton, Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot and Renault were already among the main exhibitors
